Why Choose a Choir?
We live in the age of corporate away days with literally hundreds of different activities available to us: from electronic treasure hunts to wine and cheese tasting, Bear Grylls' survival challenges to reminiscent sports days. There is so much choice it can be hard to select which event would be most beneficial to your company. It can be a real struggle to differentiate between those days that will actually make a change to you and your staff and which will be treated as a holiday excursion, instantly forgotten when they step over the office threshold the following morning. With the overwhelming growth of these start ups it can be overwhelming and time consuming to filter through the options. With the added introduction of satirical books like best seller ‘Five go on a Strategy Away Day’ you don’t want all of your best intentions to be perceived as a joke.
This is why at The Workplace Choir Company we have a variety of programmes available that can be carefully tailored to reflect the core values and ambitions of your company. Not convinced that singing is for you? Then let us prove to you the positive impact choral practise can bring to your employees team work and communication skills. You can book us for a full or half day programme which will enable you to see the immediate effects of singing. If you want to set up your own individual choir then sign up for our 12 week programme where we offer a no sign up, no fee, taster session, although in our experience we have always had a minimum of 70% of our participants wish to continue onto the full experience.
But Why Singing?
Our employees at The Workplace Choir Company not only have decades of experience in the choral and performance sector, but we also believe in the power of singing and music. It has been central to our lives both professionally and personally. Whether it’s the fond memories we have of singing in school choirs or our imagined operatic spectaculars coming to life onstage we can all vouch for the amazing way it has shaped our lives for the better and the fantastic interactive skills it has given us.
But don’t just take our word for it!
The Workplace Choir Company provides you with quantifiable statistics from our feedback and questionnaires handed out during our sessions which cleary illustrate the personal and professional benefits. Check out our Measurable Outcomes page to learn more. Our Work has a long lasting impact on our clients many of whom have loved it so much they have continued to run full-time choirs with us.
Is there anything else I should know?
Not only do our clients believe in the great effects of singing but so do recent scientific studies. We’ll look at this in depth in a later post but for now, here are the essentials you need to know: Singing triggers all four happiness hormones:
Dopamine – enhances the function of cell receptors all over the body and functions as a neurotransmitter, or put more simply the higher your dopamine level the less effort it takes your brain to evoke a certain behaviour.
Serotonin – works in a similar manner to dopamine. In the pharmaceutical industry it is used as a form of treating depression, generalised anxiety disorder and social phobia. When naturally produced it can create an uplifting mood and renewed sense of wellbeing.
Endorphins – as many of us know are produced during exercise and exertion improving our happiness levels. With prolonged practice singing can act as a great work out strengthening the core and increasing lung capacity.
Oxytocin – is known to alleviate stress and anxiety as well as increase bonding and trust so it makes sense that many of those who have singing lessons or sing chorally feel less lonely and isolated.
The Bonus Hormone: Cortisol – levels are lowered during singing which decreases stress and anxiety.
So there you have it: We believe in singing, our clients believe in singing and science believes in singing. What’s stopping you from believing to? Contact us now for more information on: 0247 722 0159 or send us an email here.
